Workshop Overview:

The key to safety and survival during a fire at home, on vacation, and in the workplace is to have a thorough understanding of fire behavior, the dangers of fire, when and how to evacuate and when to help others. TV and the movies have misrepresented the dangers of fires and survival. This workshop provides an understanding of fire behavior, how to react and respond to a fire in a healthcare facility and fire prevention practices and principles for home and work.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Review nursing home fire incidents and statistics

  • Identify the primary sources of fires in nursing homes

  • Gain knowledge of the many life safety hazards of fire.

  • Gain a basic understanding of fire behavior.

  • Understand when to leave, rescue others or attempt to extinguish a fire.

  • Gain knowledge of fire prevention and survival skills
