SMALLER HOSPITALS ARE ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE TO CYBER ATTACKS

A recent study by a cybersecurity firm looked at health systems with more than $1 billion in revenue and more than 19 hospitals to understand why the healthcare industry is more vulnerable to cybersecurity attacks.

It turns out that hackers pay close attention to smaller hospitals with the objective of gaining access to larger ones. This easy ‘in’ for cyber attackers occurs most often because of a gap in the precautions taken by smaller systems when it comes to protecting data.

“Earlier research by CyCognito showed that about 7% of these smaller organization digital assets are at risk. That means around 350 at-risk assets are added to the parent's attack surface when a smaller organization is acquired.”
