WHITE HOUSE AGREES, SENIOR AND DISABILITY CARE REQUIRE INCREASED TRANSPARENCY

Nursing home infrastructure was threatened long before the pandemic exacerbated these fractures in the form of deteriorating conditions and a mass exodus of medical staff.

“Without decisive action now, these unacceptable conditions may get worse. Private equity firms have been buying up struggling nursing homes, and research shows that private equity-owned nursing homes tend to have significantly worse outcomes for residents.”

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is launching new initiatives to make sure that history doesn’t repeat itself. Through allotted taxpayer dollars, private equity firms will be held accountable for increased quality of care and adequate staffing so that residents don’t fall victim to previous statistics.

Here is a glimpse at the new requirements from the White House Briefing:

  • Establish a Minimum Nursing Home Staffing Requirement

  • Ensuring Pandemic and Emergency Preparedness in Nursing Homes

  • Strengthen the Skilled Nursing Facility (“SNF”) Value-Based Purchasing (“VBP”) Program

  • Reinforce Safeguards against Unnecessary Medications and Treatments
