SCHOOL SAFETY DRILLS ARE KEY TO NAVIGATING UNPLANNED EMERGENCIES
It’s important for parents to understand how their school handles unplanned emergencies. Typically, school administration staff are trained on how to respond to fire drills, lockdowns, shelter-in-place drills, and evacuation procedures.

Another consideration that schools must make is how they plan to accommodate students with special needs in the event that an evacuation must occur.

“Members of the National Association of School Psychologists’ PREPaRE Workgroup offer the following guidelines to help schools understand what might be considered best practices in the development and implementation of a variety of exercises and drills.”
