NO SHORT- OR LONG-TERM SILVER BULLET FOR SKILLED NURSING STAFFING CRISIS
The skilled nursing industry is one of the hardest-hit healthcare sectors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staffing shortages have left behind a more than competitive job market and an obvious strain on daily operations.
According to the Skilled Nursing News 2022 outlook survey, “59% of respondents said maintaining staffing levels would be the greatest COVID-related challenge in the next year, followed by 16.5% who said occupancy declines.”
Labor challenges are widespread and seem to be long-lasting, which could undoubtedly affect both the desirability to potential occupants and the longevity of current residents to stay where care could be compromised.
