New Research Raises Concerns About Evacuating Assisted Living
Amid the increasing occurrence of extreme weather nationwide, Brown University School of Public Health has been researching the impact of evacuating assisted living residents versus taking shelter-in-place measures.
The study suggests that for some residents, being removed from their familiar surroundings and routines might do more harm than good.
“Assisted living staff and emergency managers need to carefully evaluate factors like flood risk, backup power, and building integrity when making these critical decisions that impact so many lives.”
