CHUG HELPS SIX KANKAKEE COUNTY NURSING & REHABILITATION FACILITIES DURING POWER OUTAGE

THE PROBLEM:

In August 2020, a massive storm with high-winds, Derecho, and tornadoes swept through Chicago and surrounding counties causing a broad power outage that wasn’t expected to be restored for several days.

Collaborative Healthcare Urgency Group CHUG received phone calls from many members in affected counties. Nursing homes, home health and assisted living facilities were experiencing an especially urgent need for power since their patients required respiratory, oxygen, and medication support.

THE SOLUTION:

CHUG contacted their collaborative partners for assistance. ACR, our proven partner in restoration and recovery, County and local Emergency Management agencies, Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

THE RESULT:

The Skilled Nursing Facilities in partnership with CHUG, ACR, County Emergency Management Agencies, ComEd and other stakeholders worked collaboratively to ensure that the patients/residents were safe. Agencies worked to obtain the necessary equipment and resources to meet the needs of the organizations. Whether it was cooling units, generators, refrigerator trucks, or solutions to restore power. The facilities were able to shelter-in-place instead of evacuating.
