CHUG: Tornado Preparedness is Key for Spring

March through May is tornado season for Chicago, which means planning is key in navigating the Spring weather. In case of a tornado, it’s important to first understand the difference between a tornado warning and a tornado watch.

A Tornado Watch indicates tornadoes and/or severe thunderstorms are possible. Review tornado safety rules. Monitor local weather closely. Seek alternative shelter if you live in a mobile home.

A Tornado Warning is an urgent message that a tornado has been sighted or detected by Doppler radar. Move quickly to a place of safety and take cover.

It’s equally important to know and understand how your local communities will warn the public of a threatening weather event, and where and how to take shelter.
